Oklahoma State University

Located in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University offers six aviation bachelor’s degree paths. The pilot program is only available to start in the fall and has a limited number of new student slots per year.

Program Highlights

Oklahoma State University is an FAA-approved Part 141 pilot school and flight operations are conducted at the Stillwater Regional Airport (KSWO), which is only a five-minute drive from the main campus.

A new 11,600-square-foot flight facility is under construction and is set to open in 2022. The facility will include spaces for individual flight debriefings, encourage onsite group instruction and discussions and offer state-of-the-art simulator technology, dispatch space, and student common areas.

Some of the academic courses required for the aviation degree paths can be taken at OSU’s satellite campus in Tulsa.

Oklahoma State University has partnerships with multiple airlines and associations to provide well-defined paths to an industry career. Some of those connections include:

The school is also part of Region 4 of the National Intercollegiate Flying Association.

Value

Oklahoma State University’s tuition is average for its size school. An in-state student should plan to pay about $10,000 a year for base tuition, while an out-of-state student will spend about $25,000. This is base tuition and does not include flight expenses.

While the base tuition may be average, the flight costs at Oklahoma State University are lower than most flight schools. To complete their entire flight program, OSU estimates students will pay about $55,000.

OSU offers scholarships to help mitigate the cost of tuition and flight, including the:

● William R. Schwertfeger Award of Excellence Scholarship
● Cal Waller, Jr. Scholarship

They also accept veteran’s benefits such as the GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon.

Fleet and Facilities

OSU boasts an impressive and growing fleet of technically advanced aircraft, including:

● Cessna 152s
● Cessna 150s
● Cirrus SR20s
● Piper Seminoles

Oklahoma State University also houses simulators for students to train on, including Redbird MCX and CRJ-200 simulators.

Graduates from OSU’s Part 141 flight training program are eligible for the restricted ATP of 1,000 hours.

Campus Life

At Oklahoma State University students have many different choices for room and board. Campus offers 31 residence halls, 15 living learning communities, and more than 30 dining options.

OSU is a large school with plenty of activities for students to enjoy. The school hosts more than 500 clubs and organizations, including Greek life, diverse student associations, and dozens of intramural sports.

The university is also an athletic school. It plays football in the Big 12 conference and also has 13 other sporting teams for students to cheer on or try out for.

Oklahoma State University is a growing flight school with a lot to offer. With a new state of the art facility, airline partnerships, scholarships to help pay for tuition, OSU has become one of the most competitive aviation schools in the country to get into. The school can also offer students NCAA sports and many on-campus activities and traditions to help give them the full college experience.
