Colorado Northwestern Community College

Located in Rangely, Colorado, Colorado Northwestern Community College offers two aviation-focused career paths. This small community college in Colorado entices students with wide open flying and “mountain flying” daily. The flight school has been teaching students to fly for more than 50 years.

Program Highlights

Colorado Northwestern is an FAA-approved Part 141 flight school located at the Rangely Airport (4V0), only a five-minute drive from the main campus.

The college offers the flight-training portion of a Bachelor of Science and Arts in Aviation and Aerospace Science with a concentration in professional flight officer from Metropolitan State University- Denver. CNCC also has a bridge program with Utah Valley University (UVU) for those students wishing to pursue their Professional Pilot BS degree, where all classes taken at CNCC will transfer to UVU.

The school is also part of Region 1 of the National intercollegiate Flying Association Inc.

Value

Per year, in-state students will pay just around $10,400 in base tuition, while out-of-state students’ tuition will be higher, around $13,600. These costs do not include flight hours or housing costs.

For flight students, the two year flight costs is average at around $52,600. This includes private to CFI. There are also elective flight courses available for students to take.

To lower the cost of tuition, students have many options for financial aid. The college has a scholarship center that lists local, institutional, state, and outside scholarships for students to apply for. They include the:

Colorado Northwestern also accepts VA benefits for its programs.

Fleet and Facilities

Colorado Northwestern uses ten Cessna aircraft for its fleet, including:

● Cessna C172 Skyhawks
● Cessna C172RG Cutlass Singles

Graduates of the flight program can qualify for a restricted airline transport pilot certificate.

Campus Life

Students can take advantage of many on campus resources and activities. The college has three residence halls for students who want to live on campus and also a dining hall.

There are many clubs and organizations students can choose from to join, including an aero club and student government.

Living in northwestern Colorado has its perks, and the college takes advantage of this by boasting an outdoor program where students can find opportunities to raft world-class rivers, ice climb on campus, play disc golf, learn teamwork on the largest challenge course in the area, and mountain bike in the Southwest.
