The Cirrus SR20 has significantly evolved with its G3 version, transforming from a "basic" original model into a "polished" and "grown up" modern aircraft.
Key G3 enhancements include a new, lighter, and stronger carbon fiber wing that improves handling, increases useful load, and boosts cruise speed, along with lankier landing gear and upgraded interiors.
Despite not featuring the Garmin Perspective suite to manage costs, the SR20 G3 comes standard with a capable Avidyne Entegra flat-panel system and WAAS-equipped Garmin navigators, positioning it as a surprisingly effective and comfortable cross-country airplane.
It’s official. With the introduction of the G3 version, the seminal Cirrus SR20 piston single is all grown up.
I hadn’t fully realized that until recently, when I had the lucky chance to fly a pair of SR20s, one really old one (well, as old as they get) and one brand spanking new one, in close succession.
