Randall Greene, president of Safe Flight Instrument Corp., and his late father, Dr. Leonard Greene, are the recipients of this year’s Joseph T. Nall Award, recognizing the pair for their longtime contributions to aviation safety.

Even if you’re not intimately familiar with the Greene’s company based in White Plains, New York, you know and cherish the aviation safety technologies the family has pioneered. Leonard Greene invented the stall-warning tab in 1946 after watching a friend die in an airplane accident caused by a stall/spin. The company has gone on to innovate a long list of aircraft safety technologies including the stick shaker, autothrottle, wind shear warning, and more than 200 other things.

The sixth-annual Nall Award was presented in New York City on November 13 by the International Air & Transportation Safety Bar Association (IATSBA), a Frederick, Maryland-based organization of attorneys. It is named in memory of Joseph T. Nall, who served as a member of the National Transportation Safety Board from 1986 until 1989. The award is given annually and seeks to recognize those individuals who have made significant contributions to aviation and transportation safety.
