Yakima, Washington-based CubCrafters surprised the aviation industry when it introduced a Part 23 certified advanced version of the classic Cub earlier this summer. Named XCub, the new taildragger blends the terrific backcountry capabilities CubCrafters’ airplanes have become known for with much improved cruise speed, range and carrying capacity. We had a chance to test fly the airplane before the launch in the scenic mountains near Yakima. Here, Flying’s executive editor, Pia Bergqvist, flies the XCub in and out of Tieton State Airport on the picturesque shores of Rimrock Lake.
