Key Takeaways:

  • U.S. government VIP aircraft, including Air Force One, are being repainted with a new livery personally chosen by President Donald Trump.
  • The new design features a distinct white and dark blue scheme with red-and-gold stripes, replacing the traditional robin’s egg blue and white pattern used since the Kennedy administration.
  • This new paint scheme is being applied to various executive jets, including the future Air Force One (VC-25Bs), an interim Qatari 747-8, and other aircraft like Air Force Two, with some already sporting the updated look during maintenance.

There is a plan in place to repaint many and perhaps all U.S. government VIP aircraft, including Air Force One, with a new livery picked out by President Donald Trump.

Sources cited by CBS News said the design—white and dark blue, with red-and-gold stripes—will be used on the Qatari jet gifted to Trump last year, the Boeing VC-25Bs set to serve as the next official Air Force One, and a host of other aircraft used by high-ranking government officials. Some airplanes are already getting the new colors as they come in for maintenance and repairs.

The livery will replace the white-and-robin’s-egg-blue pattern used on U.S. executive aircraft since the Kennedy administration.

Aviation enthusiasts online have noted the gradual spread of Trump’s preferred livery, which somewhat resembles the color scheme used on the president’s personal 757, known as Trump Force One. A Boeing Business Jet delivered to the Department of Homeland Security bears the updated colors, as does a Gulfstream jet used by the Coast Guard.

On Monday, a planespotter on Instagram shared photos of a Boeing C-32A, sometimes used as Air Force Two, also sporting the livery. The aircraft was flying from Majors Airport (KGVT) in Greenville, Texas.

In each case, the upper part of the fuselage exterior has been painted white, and the lower part and underside dark blue. Red-and-gold cheatlines run the length of the aircraft on both sides and across the nose. On the sides of the tail, a waving U.S. flag appears.

Boeing announced and shared renderings of the new livery for Air Force One when it was picked out by Trump last year, but up until this week it was not known that the government would repaint most or all of its executive jets the same way.

Trump has fixated on the aesthetics of Air Force One like few of his recent predecessors. Since returning to office, he has pushed Boeing to speed up work on the VC-25Bs so that he can use them before his term expires.

Last year, as delivery of the VC-25Bs slipped to 2028, the president accepted a 747-8 from the government of Qatar. The aircraft is now being retrofitted to serve as an interim Air Force One.
