Airbus is pioneering the integration of 3D-printed titanium aircraft parts, utilizing a method called wire-directed energy deposition (w-DED).
w-DED allows for more agile design and construction, can produce large structural components over 23 feet long, and significantly reduces material waste compared to traditional manufacturing.
Parts produced via w-DED are already being integrated into the A350's cargo door surround area, with Airbus planning continued experimentation and evaluation for broader application.
