The FAA has certified Bombardier’s new Global 8000 long-range business jet, allowing the aircraft to operate within the U.S.

“This accomplishment is a direct result of the commitment to excellence and dedicated work of our highly skilled employees, suppliers, Transport Canada, and the FAA for a collaborative, effective process,” Stephen McCullough, senior vice president of engineering and product development at Bombardier, said in a statement. “Attaining the Global 8000 certification from the FAA sets new performance standards in the industry and marks one of the final chapters in our very successful development program for this groundbreaking business jet.”

The Global 8000 is the fastest civilian aircraft since Concorde, with a maximum speed of Mach 0.95. It has a range of 8,000 nm and cabin altitude of 2,691 feet at 41,000 feet, the lowest of any business jet currently in production.

The aircraft received type certification from Transport Canada in November and officially entered service in Canada earlier this month. The first Global 8000 was delivered to Canadian business owner Patrick Dovigi.

European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification is still pending.
