Key Takeaways:

  • International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) members overwhelmingly rejected Boeing's latest contract offer, extending their six-week strike in Seattle and Gladstone, Oregon.
  • Despite the rejected offer including a significant 35-40% pay increase and improved 401(k) benefits, a key sticking point for members was Boeing's refusal to reinstate the IAM pension plan.
  • The ongoing strike has severely impacted Boeing, leading to the halt of 737 jet production, billions in third-quarter losses, and workforce reductions.
  • The union is unified and committed to continuing the strike, backed by a robust strike fund, until workers' demands for fairness and to recover past concessions are met.

A majority of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) members voted Wednesday to reject the latest contract offer from Boeing, continuing the six-week-long strike.

The new contract rejection means a continuation of the month-long strike by union members of IAM Districts 751 and W24 located respectively in Seattle and Gladstone, Oregon. Sixty-four percent of members voted against the contract, according to results released by IAM on social media.
