Deborah Hersman, the head of the National Transportation Safety Board since 2004, announced she is leaving to lead the National Safety Council. She will continue at the NTSB until April 25 when Board vice chairman Christopher Hart will assume the role of acting chairman, the agency said.
“It has been an honor to be associated with a noble mission that has at times inspired and evoked passion and at other times been in the crosshairs of controversy, as real change doesn’t come without a cost,” Hersman said in a statement.
