** HM4 Thunderbolt**
Gemini Sparkle

Key Takeaways:

  • The MB&F HM4 Thunderbolt is a high-end "horological machine" inspired by the A-10 Warthog and steampunk, designed primarily as a work of art rather than just a timepiece.
  • It features a distinctive dual "turbojet" design, with separate displays for time and power reserve, and is manually wound with a weekend-long power reserve.
  • Constructed from titanium with a complex 100-part movement, this unique mechanical art piece is priced at $59,000.

Is your pilot watch not big enough? Not flashy enough? Then consider the HM4 Thunderbolt, the latest in a series of watches by upscale Geneva-based mechanical art design house MB&F.

The Thunderbolt is a conversation starter, to be sure. It is a watch inspired by both the A-10 Warthog and the post modern steampunk movement. Moreover, according to the company, it “wasn’t designed specifically to tell the time.” Instead, it is as much a work of art as a timepiece — MB&F doesn’t even call its products “watches” but “horological machines,” in an effort to drive home the point that they’re all about the design.
