Billy Nolen, the current FAA safety chief, has been named acting FAA administrator, effective Friday, replacing retiring administrator Steve Dickson.
Bradley Mims, the FAA’s deputy administrator, will take on an expanded role to assist Nolen during this interim period.
An experienced aviation safety professional, Nolen aims to reduce helicopter accident rates from 0.79% to 0.55% per 100,000 flight hours within five years by increasing data analysis.
His appointment has been positively received by industry leaders, including NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen and U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
