Pilot Proficiency Training Offered at AOPA Summit

SAFE instructors provide free simulator sessions in Redbird Sim.

The Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) has partnered with AOPA to provide flight training at the annual AOPA Aviation Summit, which kicks off next week in Palm Springs, California. SAFE’s Pilot Proficiency Program, which was first offered at EAA AirVenture this summer, offers free flight training using Redbird’s FMX flight simulator, a full-motion advanced aviation training device (AATD) that provides more than 200 degrees of wrap around visual displays. The training is focused on proficiency dealing with situations that pilots are not presented with on a regular basis.

Pilots can choose from 11 training scenarios, which were developed by Redbird’s general manager, flight operations, Roger Sharp. The scenarios include exercises for density altitude, stalls, engine failures, crosswinds and inadvertent flight into IMC conditions, to name a few. Participants can choose to fly the sim with the Garmin G1000 avionics suite or traditional instruments.

One-hour training slots, which include 15-minute pre- and post-brief sessions, will be scheduled and provided right at the Palm Springs Convention Center in room Mesquite G on Thursday October 10 through Saturday October 12. In addition to the Pilot Proficiency Program, there will be educational seminars on a broad base of subjects at the Aviation Summit.
