Video: Superscooper Targets Burning Truck

Amateur video shows precision drop.

An incident that was caught on amateur video has highlighted the incredible precision with which a fire bomber can hit a needy target. A heavy truck caught fire after it collided with a motor grader on a remote section of the Trans-Labrador Highway, which transitions the provinces of Labrador and Newfoundland in eastern Canada. Being in such an inaccessible area, there were no hopes of getting a fire truck to extinguish the fire. Instead, a twin-engine amphibious fire bomber was called to the scene of the accident.

The Canadair CL-415 Superscooper can be seen lining up with the section of the road where the accident scene was located and depositing its fire retardant at the perfect moment to hit the smoking truck. While the video is not long enough to show the aftermath of the drop, you can pretty much rest assured that there was nothing burning anywhere near that spot. While the accident happened in August 2013, we thought this video was worth sharing.
