Four months after the crash of a Daher-Socata TBM 900 in the Caribbean Sea, the wreckage of the airplane and bodies of Larry and Jane Glazer were recovered off the coast of Jamaica on Monday. The wreckage was found in the water about two miles deep, according to the couple’s family.
Glazer, the pilot and owner of the TBM 900 and chairman of the TBM Owners and Pilots Association, was flying with his wife from Rochester, New York, to Naples, Florida, when he failed to respond to communications from Atlanta Center. F-15s followed the unresponsive turboprop, reporting that they could see the pilot slumped over in his seat. The TBM continued, heading over Cuba, until it eventually crashed in the waters north of Jamaica.
A few days after the crash, a LiveATC.net audio recording revealed that Glazer twice asked for a lower altitude due to an unspecified problem but was denied the request.
According to a statement released by the Glazers’ daughter and two sons, the Eclipse Group of Annapolis, Maryland, was hired to search for the plane and their parents’ remains. The search began on Jan. 13 in collaboration with the Jamaican government.
“We also recovered significant portions of the aircraft itself and we are hopeful that, in time, this will provide us with answers as to exactly what happened that day,” the family said.
