Video: CRJ With Gear Problem Lands at LAX

United Express jet touches down without left gear.

Video from a news helicopter captured the scene as the crew of a United Express jet was forced to make an emergency landing on Monday morning at Los Angeles International Airport after experiencing a landing gear problem.

United Express Flight 5316, a Bombardier CRJ-200 operated by SkyWest Airlines, departed Monterey, California, at about 6:50 a.m. with 43 people on board bound for Los Angeles. Soon after the crew reported a gear malfunction.

After circling to troubleshoot the problem with the left landing gear, the jet landed at 8:23 a.m. on Runway 24L at LAX.

Video of the successful landing from a CBS News 24 helicopter in Los Angeles shows the airplane touching down and almost immediately rolling onto its left side as the left tire shreds, the flaps drag on the runway and sparks begin to shoot from the wingtip. Officials say nobody was hurt in the incident.
