Man Killed by Helicopter Rotor at Pennsylvania Fair

Pilot was reportedly reaching for a wind-blown hat.

A 69-year-old man who had been giving rides at the Bloomsburg Fair in Pennsylvania was killed on Friday evening when he was struck by the helicopter’s rotor blade.

The helicopter was being refueled around 7:30 p.m. when pilot Carl Enlow reportedly returned to speak with a replacement pilot. His hat blew off, and he was struck by the rotor blade while attempting to reach for it.

Enlow was taken via helicopter to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A former military pilot, Enlow had flown helicopters for some 50 years and was working for Heritage Rotors of Port Orange, Florida.

Investigators are currently looking into the accident.
