CAE and Aviation Performance Solutions (APS) have extended their partnership with a new facility at the Arlington Municipal Airport (GKY) in the southern part of Dallas, which will focus on providing Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) to pilots flying business and commercial aircraft. Beginning next spring, pilots at the facility will learn how to prevent loss of control in-flight (LOC-I) accidents through web-based, ground, in-flight and simulator training.
The web-based program was developed by CAE and APS and is based on the Airplane Upset Recovery Training Aid (AURTA), Revision 2 — a document that was put together for the FAA by the Industry Airplane Upset Recovery Training Aid Team. AURTA Revision 2 provides guidance for upset recovery training specifically for high-altitude operations.
Since the training is geared toward jet pilots flying at high altitude, the program will include simulator training at the SimuFlite training center, which is located at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), about 30 minutes north of the Arlington Airport. The in-flight portion of the training will be conducted in an Extra 300 airplane, which provides the capability to demonstrate and practice the prevention and recovery of extreme upset attitudes without exceeding g-limits. The Extra 300 is also used at APS’s facility in Mesa, Arizona.
