Free Tools for Job Seekers Available from JSfirm.com

Job hunters with a free JSfirm.com account can give their employment search a boost.

In today’s volatile aviation career environment, when the COVID-19 pandemic has upended every aspect of commercial and general aviation and crippled economies, many people in solid aviation career positions are finding themselves out of a job. And with the path forward to the next “normal” almost requiring an instrument rating to fly through cloudy skies, using every tool available to find a new position is sound advice.

For more than 20 years, JSfirm.com has been a fast-growing aviation jobs website dedicated to matching job seekers with open aviation career positions. Now, they have announced a suite of free tools for job seekers to help in finding their next position.

Any job seeker with a free account on JSfirm.com can request a resume review, and a resume professional from the JSfirm.com Member Advocate Team will review and rate their resume. Additional resume services are also available for job seekers needing extra assistance with their resume.

“Your resume is your first impression, so it’s important to avoid common mistakes,” said Abbey Hutter, JSfirm.com’s executive director. “We use an exclusive five-star resume rating system based on overall formatting such as structure, layout, flow, and other pertinent resume etiquette. This rating is non-biased, and candidates are informed of their JSfirm.com star level. We find that one big mistake is that some resumes go on, and on. Get to the point, hit the highlights, and always leave just enough for the company to want to know more.”

Job seekers can also receive free—and relevant—daily job alerts when opportunities matching their work experience and job preferences are available, or set up alerts to know when specific companies are hiring.

Other free services for job seekers on JSfirm.com include an interactive job and company map to search and apply to jobs in a desired area, as well as the ability to message companies not actively hiring, and an export tool to keep track of applications, notes, and interviews.

“As Payroll Protection ends and the CARES support is approaching its end, we are seeing a directly proportional trend of more job seekers on the site, they know it’s coming,” said Sam Scanlon, JSfirm.com’s managing partner. “Ironically, job postings from companies are starting to pick up as they realize there will still be a shortage and they want to attract the talent that is becoming available.” Scanlon added that in the 20 years since two pilots and mechanics started the site after struggling to find a resource to locate qualified aviation candidates for companies they were running, JSfirm.com now has over 500,000 aviation professionals utilizing the website.

JSfirm.com distributes information on jobs through a network of over 40 aviation partners, Hutter said. Some of these “hand-selected” partners include the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Helicopter Association International (HAI), Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA), the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), and General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), plus numerous regional aviation organizations and university programs.

While many people will think of “aviation jobs” as being pilots and maintenance techs, there are 20 aviation job categories on JSfirm.com that cover every corner of the industry. “Lots of companies utilize our site to find an accountant that also has a pilot’s license, or an executive that has his or her A&P,” Hutter said. “In addition to the common jobs posted, we also have UAV/UAS, Technical Writers, Sales, Paint, Management, Line Services, Interior Specialists, Finance, Engineering, Dispatcher, Avionics, Administration and others.”
