Avidyne Acquires STC for SkyTrax200 Dual-Band ADS-B In Receiver

The new software release for the company’s IFD series will soon mark version 10.3.

In a round-up of news from the first half of 2021—and a couple of brand-new updates—Avidyne promoted several key products and milestones at the Aircraft Electronics Association convention in Dallas, Texas, on June 22. “We’ve had a lot of great things to share since we all last saw each other,” said Tom Harper, director of marketing for Avidyne. “Last fall, we opened our new Aircraft Integration and Flight Test Center at the Melbourne International Airport (KMLB) in Florida, and in March, we launched our Interactive Installation Manual and new 10-module Avidyne Academy to provide online technical training for our dealers.”

Adding to that, Avidyne announced that its SkyTrax200 dual-band ADS-B In receiver has acquired its STC. More than 600 aircraft are covered on the approved model list for the flexible receiver. The SkyTrax200 includes both 1090MHz- and 978MHz-band receivers to provide direct line-of sight reception of ADS-B traffic targets, and reception of FIS-B information via the 978MHz band in the US where available. The SkyTrax can receive traffic data from an active traffic system such as Avidyne’s SkyTrax600, TAS600 series, Ryan 9900BX, or a SkywatchTM system. Weather and traffic info can display on the IFD series GPS/nav/coms as well as Avidyne EX500, EX600, and EX5000 MFDs and Entegra integrated flight decks.

The 10.3 release coming up for the IFD GPS/nav/com series is anticipated to be finalized in the third quarter of 2021. New features contained in the release include visual approaches, VNAV, support for tandem/remote VHF nav/com tuning in dual installations, support for oceanic mode, powerlines in the database, radar altimeter display (via a 429 input), extended support for FOQA, support for twin engine aircraft on the fuel calculation page, ability to import user waypoints from a CSV file, map zoom to a half mile, certified TAWS and HTAWS, and three-arc-second terrain data.
