Embraer Sees Synthetic Vision Approved on Praetor 500 and 600

The capability has been certified by the Brazilian ANAC and the FAA.

Embraer announced on September 28 that it had secured Brazilian ANAC and FAA approval for its synthetic vision system (Synthetic Vision Guidance System) upgrade to the Collins Pro Line Fusion flight deck on its Praetor 500 and 600 business jets. The manufacturer is the first to obtain such approval.

SVGS operates independently of the enhanced vision system found on the Fusion integrated flight deck. The option “provides pilots with a dynamic perception of position, trend, and motion, facilitating the transition to visual references,” according to a press release, and enabling pilots to complete approaches to lower minimums. Using the SVGS, the aircraft can be flown to a decision height of 150 feet agl (as opposed to 200 feet), allowing for approaches with lower ceilings. The SVGS can be used with or without a head-up display (HUD).

“At Embraer, we are committed to continuously improving our already industry-leading products to deliver the ultimate experience in business aviation,” said Michael Amalfitano, president and CEO of Embraer Executive Jets. “Just two months after certifying the electric pocket door and making the HEPA filter standard, we are proud to certify another Praetor 500 and Praetor 600 innovation. Thanks to our unparalleled engineering team and world-class partnership with Collins Aerospace, Embraer is proud to offer business aviation’s first Synthetic Vision Guidance System on the Praetor 500 and Praetor 600, further solidifying their position as the most disruptive and technologically advanced midsize business jets in the market.”

The SVGS is retrofittable to Legacy 450, Legacy 500, Praetor 500, and Praetor 600 aircraft, in addition to its availability on new deliveries. The Praetor 500 and 600 were announced in October 2018, and certificated less than a year later. The 500 boasts a range of 3,340 nm with four passengers and NBAA IFR reserves. The Praetor 600 is in the super-midsize category, and its range makes possible nonstop flights from Paris to New York, or São Paulo to Miami—at a range of 4,018 nm.
