Red Bull Air Race Finale Moves from China to Austria

Championship in city where race series started.

Red Bull announced it is moving the location of the final air race of the 2014 season from China to Spielberg, Austria, after facing doubts about the feasibility of hosting the finale in the original location.

The last race of the year will now be held at the F1 racetrack in Spielberg, bringing the race series back to the country where it all began 11 years ago.

“I think it’s really great that the showdown for the 2014 season will be held in Austria,” said Red Bull Air Race World Championship pilot Hannes Arch. “That corner of the world loves the race. We saw in Rovinj in April how many fans the sport has. It would be a dream come true for me if I can hold on to win the championship in my home country.”

The eight-stop 2014 Red Bull Air Race World Championship began in Abu Dhabi in March with stops in Rovinj, Croatia, in April and Putrajaya, Malaysia, in May. The remaining races will be held in Gdynia, Poland (July 26-27), Ascot, England (August 16-17), Dallas/Fort Worth (September 6-7), and Las Vegas (October 11-12), before the final in Spielberg, which will mark the 58th overall Red Bull Air Race, which has thrilled fans in 18 countries since the series launched in 2003.
