Former NFL Star Finds Place in the Air

Pro Bowler starts taking flying lessons.

When New England Patriots star defensive lineman Vince Wilfork left the field on Sunday with a torn Achilles tendon, some NFL fans wondered if seven-time Pro Bowler Richard Seymour might be available to replace him. The 33-year-old ex-Patriot is currently a free agent. His departure from the team with which he won three Super Bowls was less than pleasant, and he last played for the Oakland Raiders. When the Boston Herald asked if he’d be interested in a reunion with Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Seymour laughed and said, “No way.”

One reason he might be inclined to pass on a football contract is that Seymour is taking flying lessons and working on his pilot’s license in the Atlanta area, where he now lives. So he has no interest in a deal with the Patriots (who have shown no interest in inviting Seymour back, by the way).

But then, maybe if the New York Jets offered him a contract?
