FBO Spotlight: Smyth Wythe Airport Commission (KMKJ)

Flying reader John Carpenter explains how this Virginia FBO goes above and beyond excellent customer service.

In our FBO Spotlight series, we’re highlighting FBOs around the country that have received rave reviews from our readers. This latest Spotlight is brought to you by John Carpenter, who recently stopped by Smyth Wythe Airport Commission at Mountain Empire Airport in a Cessna 172M. Here’s what he has to say about the experience.

Smyth Wythe Airport Commission (KMKJ)
Marion/Wytheville, Virginia

“Very special trip — wife celebrated her 50th in Savannah. Weather was great until we hit Virginia. Landed exactly at closing time…on a Sunday evening…snowing heavily… and Brian came back to the airport to open the FBO and give us the keys to the crew car. The next morning we called the FBO and the airport manager Charlie said to keep the car as long as necessary. He knew we were stranded until the weather improved. Drove to the airport to see how things were and Charlie moved our plane inside a hangar and helped remove the 2-3″ snow and left it inside the hangar to ensure it was free of snow and ice. No charge!! The best customer service we’ve ever had!!”
