Video: Arrive Safely at the AOPA Fly-In in Frederick

Restricted airspace complicates arrivals at AOPA headquarters.

If you are planning on attending the AOPA Fly-In this weekend at the organization’s headquarters in Frederick, Maryland, this video is a must-see. You need to learn the established approach procedure to reduce the risk of flying with the increased traffic flowing into Frederick Municipal Airport (KFDK). The procedure is further complicated by the fact that the airport is located right between two restricted areas: the massive Washington, D.C., special flight rules area and Camp David.

In addition to the video, which explains the procedures quite nicely, you need to download the fly-in package from the AOPA website to make sure that you have all the data within reach during the preflight planning.

Once safely on the ground, you will be able to enjoy many seminars, safety briefings, exhibitors and lots of food courtesy of local food trucks. Just like the inaugural 2015 event in Salinas, California, the Frederick fly-in will kick off this evening with a Barnstormers party, featuring the movie “Living in the Age of Airplanes.”

The first seminar, the Rusty Pilots Seminar, will start at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, a full hour before the pancake breakfast will be served. Don’t miss the Town Hall with AOPA’s president Mark Baker at 2:45 pm and Sporty’s ice-cream social at 3:30 p.m., right before the closing of the event at 4 p.m.
