‘Small Airplane, Big World:’ Tips from FAA’s Online Safety Briefing

Publication provides wealth of flying advice.

The current issue of the FAA Safety Briefing is devoted to the significance of operating general aviation aircraft around the globe. It offers a toolbox of resources for pilots looking to fly safely and legally outside U.S. airspace.

Topics include a review of overseas flying requirements; a look at mastering the international language of aviation (yes, it’s English. But…); tips on Caribbean island flying; and an inside look at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and how it can affect your flying.

In the online publications “Checklist” section (on page 27), pilots can find an instruction booklet for using the International Flight Information Manual, a useful flight-planning resource for flights away from the U.S.
