James Horner, the Academy Award-winning composer best known for scoring the theme music for “Titanic,” died on Monday after crashing in southern California in his Tucano single-engine turboprop.
The FAA said the crash occurred near Los Padres National Forest about 60 miles north of Santa Barbara at around 9:30 a.m. local time. Horner was piloting his S-312 Tucano Mk1.
Horner’s agents confirmed his death in a statement after he had been missing and presumed dead on Monday.
Horner won two Oscars for scoring the soundtrack to “Titanic,” which included the hit song “My Heart Will Go On,” sung by Celine Dion. His other Hollywood work includes the theme music for “Braveheart,” “A Beautiful Mind,” “Avatar,” “Apollo 13,” “Field of Dreams” and “Aliens.”
