One of NextGen’s Cornerstones Gets FAA Go-ahead

The FAA has approved a letter of qualification for Naverus to move forward with developing flight paths consistent with the developmental NextGen air traffic control system. Headquartered in Kent, Washington, Naverus specializes in implementing performance-based navigation (PBN) and required navigation performance (RNP) procedures. Past customers include Southwest Airlines, and Naverus has already developed more than 300 RNP procedures worldwide. Under the approved FAA program, Naverus will work to develop system-wide air traffic procedures for the NextGen ATC system. The goal is to move away from ground-based radar control and toward autonomous self-reported positioning for aircraft using satellite-based (GPS) equipment. The long-term objective is a more efficient and precise air traffic control system yielding increases in fuel economy, utility and safety.
