Airshow performer Jay “Flash” Gordon died in a crash during the Wings Over Big South Fork Air & Car Show at the Scott Municipal Airport in Oneida, Tennessee, over the weekend.
The Louisville, Kentucky, pilot was flying his L-39 Albatros when it entered a dive shortly after takeoff, according to witnesses and local news reports.
Gordon was a longtime performer of the Thunder Over Louisville Air Show, who credited his flying experience and engineering expertise to keeping the airshow going. In addition to Gordon’s L-39, he also performed in an Extra 300L.
“Jay Gordon was a great friend, accomplished pilot and long time supporter of Wings over Big South Fork. He inspired young and old alike with his mastery of the trademark sky-blue L-39 Albatross Russian Military Jet,” the Wings Over Big South Fork Air & Car Show wrote on their website.
The NTSB is investigating the crash.
