Intense Weather Hits Final 2015 Red Bull Race

Winners crowned in Las Vegas.

The Red Bull Air Race World Championship took place this weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, concluding the 2015 season. Australian Matt Hall won the eighth and final race, but, despite major challenges, it was the runner up, Paul Bonhomme from Great Britain, who took home the accumulative win with 76 points for the season.

Hall was not far behind Bonhomme with 71 points. And after Bonhomme’s Edge 540 was damaged in a downpour in the round of 14, his title was in jeopardy. But Bonhomme’s ground crew was able to repair the airplane in time for his match up with Austrian Hannes Arch. That win put him in a position to earn the points needed for the overall win.

“The weather conditions were shocking,” said Hall. “There was a lot of pressure on Paul and he did what he had to do – so congratulations. It’s been an amazing year.”

Hall and Bonhomme dominated this season’s World Championship. Third place winner, Arch, had less than half of the points compared with Hall, totaling 34 points for the season.

American Mike Goulian showed a strong finish in Vegas and ended up in sixth place there. His final place in the World Championship was 10th barely beating out countryman Kirby Chambliss who finished in 11th place.
