Icon A5 Draws Emergency Crews Near Beach Community

Amphibian was thought to have crashed.

An Icon A5 amphibian landed in the water near the Los Angeles area beach community Hermosa Beach on Monday, causing a major commotion in the area. Emergency crews were dispatched as the airplane was thought to have crashed in the water. But instead, two people emerged and climbed up on top of the wing of the A5 to enjoy a cup of coffee, according to reports from local news outlet The Daily Breeze.

The city of Hermosa Beach issued a media advisory stating that “at 9:31 am, a small plane crashed into the water next to the Hermosa Beach Pier. Both occupants crawled out on the wing and appear OK.”

About 30 minutes later, a second advisory was sent out stating that the amphibian had taken off. Lifeguards, police officers and firefighters were dispatched but arrived after the LSA was already airborne.
