Eclipse has developed software improvements to the full authority digital engine control (fadec) system of its Eclipse 500 very light jet. Pending FAA approval, the updated software will be made available to Eclipse customers. The software fix is designed to correct a fault that caused the engines of an Eclipse 500 to lock at full power after the pilot pushed the power quadrants beyond the stops during a go-around at Chicago Midway Airport last month. In the course of researching the fault, Eclipse revealed two other aircraft that had experienced the same fault. The software revision will remove the threat posed by pushing the throttles through the stops. In addition, Eclipse has issued an amendment to its pilot's manual outlining the procedures to follow should the situation recur. Eclipse President and CEO Vern Raburn said, "We're working closely with both the staff members of the NTSB and the FAA to understand this condition fully, and put the necessary design improvements in place to safeguard our customers and our fleet." More than 200 Eclipse 500s have been delivered.
