Perfect weather graced the annual Experimental Aircraft Association skiplane fly-in on Jan. 22 at Pioneer Airport — a private grass field (when it’s not covered with snow) situated adjacent to Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where AirVenture takes place every summer. With sunny skies, light winds and a few fresh inches of snow, 33 airplanes and many drive-in visitors attended the event.
As has become custom, chili and soup were served followed by birthday cake in honor of Experimental Aircraft Association matriarch Audrey Poberezny’s birthday on Jan. 24. The fly-in was also a celebration of the 58th anniversary of the inaugural Experimental Aircraft Association meeting on Jan. 24, 1953, at Wright Field (now Timmerman Airport) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
