Deadline Looms for E-LSA Trainer Operators

If you own a Light Sport Aircraft that is approved for training — whether it is used in that role or not — you’ll have to amend your aircraft’s airworthiness certificate by the end of this month. If not, your current certificate will expire and the aircraft will never again be eligible for an updated airworthiness certificate, according to EAA. Part of the confusion stems from a stalled move by the FAA to allow flight training to continue under the amended certificate, but EAA urges owners not to wait for the FAA to resolve the issue before amending their certificates. An amended certificate will not guarantee that previous certified flight activity will be allowed, but it will enable the aircraft to fly after the Jan. 31 deadline, and it will be eligible should the FAA later decide on a process to allow flight training. For more information, contact EAA at [email protected].
