Continental Motors Buying Engine Components International

Engine maker inks deal for five U.S. companies.

Continental Motors is expanding into the experimental and aftermarket engine segments with the purchase of five businesses owned by Danbury Aerospace, a U.S. holding company.

The purchases include all of Danbury’s assets including Engine Components International (ECi), the San Antonio, Texas, manufacturer of PMA engine parts, as well as Precision Machined Airparts, Sterling Machinery & Process, Automotive Engineering Corp. and EC Services, an aircraft components overhauler.

The deal gives Continental a strong foothold in the experimental market with the acquisition of ECi’s Titan line of engines, which includes the X320, X340 and X370 models, all based on Lycoming type designs.

There is one potential stumbling block to the proposed sale, however. Because Continental is owned by China’s AVIC, the purchases must first be approved by the State Department’s Committee for Foreign Investment.

Continental says it hopes to complete the deal within the next two months. Terms were not disclosed.
