Light Sport Aircraft

Combining the latest technology with a simple, low-cost approach.

Light sport aircraft fill an important niche at the easy-to-fly, affordable end of the flight spectrum, and they include aircraft tagged as ultralights and microlights in Europe. Most fall under the airplane-single-engine-land designation, though there are a handful of seaplanes in the category too. Within the airplane class, pilots will find either those factory-built under a special airworthiness certification, as S-LSA, or those built under the amateur certification, as E-LSA, for experimental. Manufacturers such as Flight Design, Pipistrel, Tecnam, CubCrafters, and Glasair, among others, fill out a substantial list of light sport aircraft models to try.
