Delta Introduces First Airbus A220

Passenger flights scheduled to begin in January.

Delta Airlines added its first Airbus A220 to its fleet Friday at a ceremony in Mirabel, Quebec making the company the first airline in North America to operate the new airliner. The A220 delivery is the most recent investment in Delta’s fleet modernization program, which aims to replace 20% of the airline’s older, and less-efficient aircraft, by 2020.

The Airbus A220, originally known as the Bombardier Cseries, evolved from a 2017 partnership in which aircraft bound for U.S. operators would be assembled in Airbus’s Alabama factory. Airbus eventually acquired a majority stake in the CSeries.

“The A220 will serve as the cornerstone of our future domestic growth,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. The first Delta A220 revenue flights are scheduled to begin between Boston Logan International and Dallas/Ft. Worth January 31 from New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
