Continental Motors Begins Construction of New Factory in Mobile

Company is already hiring to meet the anticipated needs of the new facility.

Continental Motors Group Ltd. (CMG), an AVIC International Holding (HK) LTD company said the foundation work for its 275,000-square-foot engine-manufacturing facility has begun in Mobile Alabama. The majority of the plant will be dedicated to advanced engine and parts manufacturing for all Continental Motors Group product lines. The factory will incorporate new manufacturing equipment and include a special evaluation area focused on advanced building techniques, including additive manufacturing and automation.

Building a new factory is only one part of the $75 million plan expected to profoundly transform Continental Motors, as well as the way the company designs, manufactures, certifies, and support products. The facility will include a customer and technology development infrastructure to allow its team members to better focus on customer satisfaction and the development of innovative products.

Continental held a job fair on August 4, to meet its immediate recruitment needs and to better inform the public of the career opportunities offered by the aerospace industry. This is another demonstration of Continental Motors’ involvement in the community around Mobile Bay and its commitment to participate in Mobile’s economic development.

The construction effort is expected to take about 10 months with completion expected in 2019. Continental says it will take until 2020 to complete the move needed to get the new factory up and running.
