Blakesburg Fly-In Celebrates Antique Airplanes

Vintage airplane lovers have something to look forward to at the end of the month as the 2018 AAA/APM Invitational Fly-In at the Antique Airfield (IA27) runs from August 29 through September 3 near Blakesburg, Iowa. Also named “BTB Days, Back-to-Blakesburg and Back-to-Basics,” the event features stellar vintage airplanes alongside a beautiful 2,350-foot turf runway.

Vintage Cessnas and Pipers, Aeroncas, Stinsons, Travel Airs, Wacos, Luscombes and Ryans are just a few of the antique aircraft that will be on display and flying. With pilots continuously flying their antique airplanes throughout the day, the airfield will be very busy. If you plan to fly in, watch this video for some tips and tricks to maximize a successful arrival.

There will also be vendors of various kinds on site, including a Fly-Market where visitors can sell items on consignment through the local Airpower Museum. A variety of movies will be screened nightly.

The AAA/APM Invitational Fly-In event dates back to 1971 and is open only to members of the Antique Airplane Association and their guests. Annual membership fees range from $35 for an individual membership to $55 for international members. A lifetime membership is also offered for $800. The registration fee for the fly-in is $75 (free for lifetime members), which includes camping at the field. In addition to tent camping, there are spots for RVs.
