L-3’s Lynx Promises Low-Cost ADS-B Path

New product family in development.

L-3 Aviation Products is offering early details of a new family of ADS-B offerings that promise to provide a low-cost compliance path for the FAA’s upcoming equipment mandate, as well as a long list of optional additional features to fit a variety of wants and budgets.

Lynx is described by L-3 as a single-box solution for ADS-B compliance with pricing starting at under $2,000. That will provide buyers with ADS-B Out capability and a WAAS GPS source to meet the 2020 equipment rule. Lynx can be upgraded with optional capabilities for display of traffic and weather information in flight, and more.

“Lynx is a capability that pilots have been asking for since Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast, or ADS-B, was conceived,” said Larry Riddle, vice president of marketing and sales for L-3 Aviation Products. “Our goal is to eliminate the guesswork and complexity inherent in ADS-B systems that meets the FAA ADS-B mandate, while going beyond what any other company is currently doing for NextGen flight.”

The first Lynx products will hit the market before the end of the year. Look for a full flight review from Flying soon.
