Hartzell Top-Props Available for Mooneys

Mooney owners can switch to Hartzell three-blade propellers.

Hartzell’s hailed three-blade propellers are becoming available on a growing number of high-performance piston airplanes, reducing the empty weight of the airplanes and improving performance. The latest STC additions include a list of Mooney models: the Mooney M20R Ovation, Ovation II, Ovation III, M20S Eagle and M20TN Acclaim. The STCs also includes airplanes that have been upgraded with more powerful engines.

Mooney owners can choose between two three-blade propellers. Hartzell’s scimitar metal prop, which has previously been approved for the Acclaim, is now available for all of the Mooney models mentioned above. The Acclaim gained about 5 KTAS in cruise with this prop and it is lighter than the stock propeller. The propeller is available with and without ice protection and is priced between $12,700 and $15,300.

Also approved is Hartzell’s Advanced Structural Composite ASCII propeller, which has previously been STC’d for several models of Cirrus, Piper and Diamond airplanes. The lightweight composite is durable and repairable, Hartzell said, and it has nickel-cobalt strips protecting the leading edges of the blades. The price for the ASCII prop for the Mooney models ranges from $22,900 to $25,000.
