Tecnam to Produce P92 Tail Dragger

P92TD will be introduced at Sun ‘n Fun.

The engineers at Tecnam appear to be frantically pumping out new LSA designs, and now the company is focusing its attention on tailwheel lovers – a group of pilots who are ignored by most manufacturers these days. A tailwheel version of the P92 has been brought to the market on the heels of the P92 Sea-Sky Hydroplane, which we announced earlier this week. The P92 Tail Dragger (or P92TD) LSA features a sleek fuselage design and a retro-style paint scheme.

The P92TD will be available with two engines in the United States: the Rotax 912ULS2 and the Lycoming O-233, each producing 100 hp. A Rotax 914 Turbo version of the P92TD will also be available; however, the U.S. LSA market does not allow for a variable pitch propeller, which is needed for the turbo.

Pricing will range from $120,000 for a day-VFR version of the taildragger to $131,000 for a part glass/part analog, fully instrumented airplane.

Tecnam’s P92 Tail Dragger will be on display at Sun ‘n Fun in Lakeland, Florida, from March 27 through April 1. The performance numbers and specifications for the taildragger will not be released until then.

While no official announcement has been made yet, Tecnam has eluded to a new demo promotion to get one of its airplane models in each state at a 20 percent discount. This program would save customers anywhere from $22,000 to $29,000 in exchange for a limited number of demo flights. A loaded Echo Classic would be available for under $100,000 under this program.
