Tecnam Launches Budget-Minded P92

LSA made for budget conscious pilots.

Tecnam continues to flood the LSA market with new models, and its latest product caters to those who are looking for a low-cost, bare-bones aircraft for fun flying. At a base price of $74,999, the Echo Classic Light is the 13th variant of the P92. Intended for the $100 hamburger flier who is looking for a basic airplane to get from Point A to B, this LSA will do the trick.

Predominantly of metal construction, the two-seat Echo Classic Light boasts a full fuel payload of 425 pounds, which is quite good for an LSA. But the exceptional payload is explained by the airplane’s 11.9-gallon fuel capacity. The LSA is powered by a Rotax 912UL, so the fuel burn is quite low. Tecnam claims a three-hour endurance, but if you are planning legs that long you may want to consider adding another 11.9-gallon fuel tank for $1,399.

The panel is as bare as it can be for VFR flight, but options are available for a cost. A Garmin SL40 Comm, GTX 327 transponder and Area 500 GPS will add $7,499 to the base price, for much added capability. Trutrack’s Gemini ADI PFD, cabin heat, external lights and a stall warning indicator are other examples of options that may be desirable to some customers. And whether you select a panel upgrade or not, one of Tecnam’s custom-made mounts designed for a handheld radio, GPS or the iPad may be a good option to add. A two-year or 200-hour limited warranty is included.
