Sonex Aircraft has announced that it will make production slots available for its “personal jet,” the single-place SubSonex kitplane. Details on terms of the order process (price, deposits, schedule, refund policy, and so on) are expected to be released at the Sonex Homecoming and Open House Fly-in event, on Sunday, July 28.
The event begins at 10 a.m CDT and is held annually in conjunction with EAA AirVenture at the company’s facility on the east side of Wittman Field in Oshkosh. A follow-up press briefing and information session will be held at the Sonex display on the AirVenture grounds at 10 a.m. the next day.
Sonex has announced refinements to the SubSonex design that are being incorporated into the conforming prototypes now under construction. The proof-of-concept JSX-1 first flew in August 2011. The JSX-2 version will have sleeker, improved aesthetics; fully retractable, dual-truck landing gear (with steerable nose wheel); a ballistic whole-airplane parachute; larger cockpit; more fuel capacity (greater than 40 gallons); cabin heat capability; and more. It is planned to be compatible with current and future avionics technology, including digital autopilots.
Like the JSX-1 (which is expected to fly in the AirVenture air show series), the JSX-2 will be powered by the tiny PBS TJ-100 jet engine, which weighs just 35 pounds and generates 225 pounds of thrust. The refined model will also have the original’s easily removable outer wing panels, enabling towing and storage in a one-car garage.
