HondaJet Near Certification Finish Line

New light jet wowing prospects.

HondaJet president Michimasa Fujino announced at the NBAA Convention that the company’s light jet is making progress toward certification, which it expects to earn in the first quarter of next year, with first customer deliveries taking place immediately afterward. Current price of the HondaJet is $4.5 million. The company has more than 100 orders for the light jet.

The company, Fujino said, is using the first production conforming HondaJet to conduct customer demonstration rides in over a dozen cities around the United States. He told Flying that the customers who flew on the airplane during the event were enthusiastic about the jet’s low cabin noise, comfort and performance.

The company has four airplanes flying as part of its FAA certification program. HondaJets have flown more than 2,000 flight hours with testing from more than 70 airports. It has also completed its brake tests, including with wet runways at Kinston, North Carolina, and hot weather testing at Yuma, Arizona, and high-altitude flight tests in Telluride, Colorado, and Roswell, New Mexico.

Fujino said that the company has 11 jets on the production line, and has hired 300 new workers for production, bringing the total employment at HondaJet to more than 1,200. He also announced that the FlightSafety training program will be ready to begin early in 2015 as well with a full-motion flight simulator to be based at the company’s headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina.
