Embraer’s midsize Legacy 500 earned its FAA type certificate yesterday, clearing the way for deliveries of the fly-by-wire jet to eager customers in North America.
FAA Deputy Associate Administrator John Hickey handed over the certification paperwork to Embraer Executive Jets President Marco Tulio Pellegrini at the company’s exhibit at the NBAA Convention in Orlando, Florida, yesterday afternoon.
The $20 million twinjet jet features Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics and Honeywell HTF7500E turbofan engines. The jet has a range of 3,452 nm at Mach 0.78.
As many as six Legacy 500s will be produced this year, after which production will steadily increase throughout 2015. Embraer has built a sprawling new manufacturing facility in Melbourne, Florida, to build both the 500 and the slightly smaller Legacy 450.
