Feds Issue Advisory on Small Airplane Terror Threat
from flexwing75
wrote 1 year 37 weeks ago
Thanks to the FBI, DHS & FAA for the 'heads up' this weekend. Yes sir. But, we aren't going to be 'scared' into supporting their budget crisis & organizational issues just because they're broadcasting rumors & reminders of small aircraft tapped as the new weapon-du-jour. Playing the media against small, private aviation is not appreciated. If anything, the Feds should be reminding the public, in lieu of such a 'threat', that we are an industry of well educated, systematic individuals who are very capable of self-regulating and protecting our skies every bit as much as we enjoy them.
FAA Bill Hits Senate Roadblock

Look, the days of federal, state & municipal agencies simply raising a hand for their funding are over. If they want our tax money to stay in business, they can advertise, lobby, beg & treat every client like it's their last - just like the rest of us. If we treated our my clients the way we're treated by the FAA or a dozen other agencies, each of us would be on a street corner with a tin cup & a 3-legged dog. I contribute to green space in my own way. I don't live in Chinatown. Pennsylvania needs another museum like a hole in the head. But, if I could send a message to the FAA by funding a sky-scraper for squirells - I'd put the wheels in the wells tomorrow for Tennessee.

No. No more money. Do the best you can with what you have. You don't balance a budget by simply billing more - you cut spending. Maybe when Congress starts paying $100 every time the President's motorcade shuts down Washington DC to pay for Police Escort & Traffic control, maybe we'll consider paying for our own ATC services. Until Capitol Hill can lead by example - we will not follow, period.
Sun 'n Fun Tornado Bills Stir Anger

"The show is the main source of revenue for this non-profit organization." Duh. Bernegger had the opportunity to be a hero, but chose to be a bean counter. Without those pilots & their planes, THERE IS NO SHOW. The Sun-n-Fun tornado was a tradgedy. Losing a homebuilt airplane is like losing a photo album or even a family member. Yes, there is a cost to repair the facility AND a cost to repair those planes. We can come together & make everyone whole. We are not the Auto industry. We are not the Banking industry. We are Aviation. We have always watched out for ourselves by watching out for each other. There's a way to make this right.

Most people agree that the FAA killed it. Bitter speculation? And, most manufacturers agee that the FAA was applying Part 23 standards instead of the ASTM standards LSA's were designed to be governed by. The public probably agrees that the FAA had no idea what they were doing. One manufacturer stated they had received a comment from their local MIDO that actually acknowledged: 1.) The prospective company's development & certification of a successful R&D aircraft. 2.) Their formal request for the MIDO audit. 3.) A formal decline from the FAA of their audit based on inadequate federal funding & that LSA was simply "not a priority in their office at this time."
