Writer Robert Goyer falls into the common trap of assuming that government is the solution of first choice. ATC is a good example. I would not question the need for some sort of ATC. Perhaps there is a better way not requiring the FAA to be in charge. If there is no better private approach, then divorce ATC fro the FAA. I am confident that there is a better private approach to developing standards. I have to concede that a private organization as the laws currently exist would face enforcement issues.
Perhaps a better starting place is in the area of aircraft certification. I believe a professional association of Engineers, Manufacturers, Owners, and Pilots would be much better.
