Turbocharged Cirrus

Hey Tom, Good point. The whole concept of the TN Cirrus is based on lean-of-peak operation, and I should have made that point more directly. The operating limitations even prohibit operations at a range essentially between lean of peak and full rich. And I'm a believer in lean of peak operations, and I can assure that there's no conspiracy or coverup on the issue. There are surely several clear advantages, as you've nicely stated, to LOP operation, though there are clear disadvantages, too, such as not going as fast. And last time I checked, airplanes were all about going fast. On the normally aspirated SR22 I might lose 6 or 8 knots going LOP, so if fuel isn't an issue, I'll typically run best power. In the new G3 turbo that I'll start flying soon with PlaneSmart, I'll be running it LOP 90 percent of the time (the other percentage being in ROP climb, where it really does stay a lot cooler).
