Was at the Reno Air Show in '87, and watched with amazement as Howard and 'Bearcat' raced.
Also that day met and conversed with Greg "Pappy" Boyington, at what was to be one of his last public appearances.

The real cause of the events that led up to the unfortunate crash, was Pilot Roush's failure to monitor departure frequency, especially during a time of potential for heavy traffic at Air Venture. Even flying into an airport of any size or degree of traffic flow, we were always taught not only to keep our head on a swivel but to monitor all pertinent tower transmissions. This accident was 100% avoidable.
